The aesthetics of form, texture, and space can subtly reveal the essence of life forces. I have devoted this body of work to investigating the way shadowy coils of transparent oxygen tubing make visible the life-giving air we take for granted as we breathe, at once personal and universal. These Jacquard weavings invite the viewer to shed the superficiality, noise, and visual clutter of contemporary society and, instead, appreciate the underlying solitude, deep silence, and fleeting nature of our existence. Elusive impressions speak to the underside of our experience—intangible afterimages rather than tactile objects; space that is suggested, but not defined. Touching on concerns with time, memory, and the fragility of life, each work asks: What is real?
