warp painted tapestries   return to slideshow
  • Color interactions between warp and weft are a source of infinite fascination for me, and this is the main reason I enjoy creating tapestries in which I first dye-paint the warp threads and then weave many more color blends into the warp by hand to develop the woven image.  There is plenty of opportunity for improvisation and I am free to either follow my working sketch or depart from it as I weave.  The weaving process is very slow, and a large tapestry can take months to complete.
